About the Innovator

Cluster Biotechnology was founded by Dr. Gustavo Cerqueira aiming to dedicate his expertise and experiences in the microbial world to the discovery and use of microorganisms in Agtech, Nutraceuticals, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare. Dr. Cerqueira comes from an academic background prior to joining the Life Sciences industry, and he was a Lecture in Microbiology and Immunology at James Cook University (Aus), and a Member of the Centre for Biodiscovery and Molecular Development of Therapeutics (Aus) until 2015. Prior to that, Gustavo worked as a Research Fellow in Medical Microbiology at Monash University (Aus), a Visiting Scientist in Bacterial Genetics at UCONN Health Center (USA), and obtained a PhD in Biotechnology which was done part-time at the Pasteur Institute (FR).

OUR VISION

Cluster Biotechnology was established to address gaps in three important areas: education, public health and the environment, and more recently the group started using micro organisms also in the resolution of issues in agriculture and the food industry.

Using molecular sciences, microbiology and engineering the team at Cluster has been developing innovative products and services that aim to contribute towards prevention and treatment of animal and human diseases, leverage well-being and boost growth among agribusinesses.

In addition, their proactive team is constantly seeking new commercial opportunities, and they work closely with business owners, scientists, healthcare providers, investors, politicians and the community.

APICAL FOODIE
 

An innovative and organic preservative that reduces spoilage and green house gases. In addition, Apical Foodie™ makes produce healthier due to its probiotic properties.

Most organic fruits & vegetables are defenseless to diseases, and a safe preservative like Apical Foodie™ is much needed.

 

Organic and non-organic distributors from Australia and overseas have become familiarized with Apical Foodie™, and after rounds of trials among crops in Vietnam, China and Australia the Cluster Biotechnology group now look forward to commercialize its innovative Apical Foodie  to farmers, growers, supermarket chains, restaurants and domestic users.

APICAL FOODIE IS MADE OF GOOD BACTERIAL CELLS, CONSERVING FRUITS & VEGETABLES FRESH FOR LONGER

Only a small amount of Apical Foodie is required for produce protection, and sprayed or bathed/dipped fruits and vegetables can be either air-dried or immediately stored (depending on produce type). The cells in Apical Foodie will do the rest.
 
 


OTHER DEVELOPMENTS

The R&D team at Cluster Biotechnology constantly innovates, by developing new Organic products that use either new microbial species or isolates.In fact, through their commercial subsidiary Simpori, the team is ready to supply three market-ready products under their Apical Range, which directly relate to the food industry:

1. Apical Foodie is the first certified-organic preservative, which uses an Australian probiotic isolate to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables in up to weeks. Apical Foodie  can be applied pre- or post-harvest, either as a spray or a bath.

2. Apical Fresh  is the next in the range, and it is the first certified-organic probiotic preservative for cut produce. Apical Fresh  innovates by using a microorganism that contains 238 unique genes (probiotic, biofilm, antioxidant and antimicrobial genes) to extend the shelf life of cut fruits and vegetables in up to months. Apical Fresh  can be applied either as a spray or a bath, and the results are truly amazing.

3. Finally, Apical Preserve  is their most recent certified-organic innovation for meat preservation. Basically, their product combines an Australian probiotic isolate to an organic polymer, and it extends the shelf lives of organic and non-organic meats in many days after the due date. Apical Preserve  can be applied over meats as a spray, or mixed to the bulk as an ingredient, and more details are available which shows the astonishing results promoted by Apical Preserve . Of note, the R&D team at Cluster Biotechnology has just found that Apical Preserve  reduces chicken contamination by Listeria and Salmonella sensibly.
